occupation

A Girl Like the Sea is a Franco-German-Italian love drama from 1966 by Georges Lautner with Mireille Darc and Hardy Krüger in the leading roles.

action

Carl fled to Beirut to escape the hunted hit man Marco. Here in Lebanon, he and his buddy Alfred are preparing an elaborate plan to rob millionaire Grubert, a passionate gambler. At that time Beirut was a thriving, lively metropolis with a large casino. But Carl's plans become obsolete the moment he meets the beautiful, blond Salène on the beach, a "girl like the sea", as the German film title would have you believe.

Salène is free and unbound, uninhibited and volatile. She lies and she loves, she laughs and she sings. Sometimes it is overflowing and then again very contemplative and calm. Carl suddenly falls in love with this mysterious young woman who doesn't seem to fit into any drawer. From now on he is only interested in Salène, and the thought of the big coup and the even bigger money have blown away. The two make a decision. They want to leave everything behind and head to the Cyclades to give themselves over to freedom and love.
