Pepe Danquart (born March 1, 1955 in Singen ) is a German filmmaker and Oscar winner.

Life

Danquart studied communication sciences from 1975 to 1981 at the University of Freiburg and in 1977 was a co-founder of the Medienwerkstatt collective there . From 1984 to 1986 he taught at the German Film and Television Academy in Berlin and since 2008 at the Hamburg University of Fine Arts .

Danquart's focus is on short films and documentaries that are intended to reflect the state of German society in a concise and exemplary manner. In 1994 he received the Oscar for best short film for fare dodgers .

With Heimspiel , Höllentour and Am Limit , he shot three sports documentaries about the ice hockey club Eisbären Berlin , the Tour de France and the climbers Thomas and Alexander Huber , which are particularly dedicated to the background of the sport.

His documentary film Joschka und Herr Fischer looks at the political work of Joschka Fischer . The film had federal release on May 19, 2011.

Pepe Danquart's twin brother Didi Danquart is also a director (Viehjud Levi) .
