Alberta Watson

Faith Susan Alberta Watson (born March 6, 1955 in Toronto , Ontario , † March 21, 2015 there ) was a Canadian actress .

Life

Alberta Watson's father was named Albert. Her mother Grace was a single parent and worked in a factory. Watson had four half-siblings, some of whom grew up with their grandparents. She dropped out of school at age 15, starred in the FOG theater company as a teenager, and then in television commercials. For a year she lived in a commune on a farm. Under the name Susan Watson , she impersonated her first roles in films. When she was 19 years old, her mother died of lymph node cancer .

In 1978, at the age of 23, Watson starred in the film In Praise of Older Women and now called himself Alberta and no longer Susan . In 1981, at the age of 26, she moved to New York in the United States , where she took acting lessons from Gene Lasko for a time. She worked in Los Angeles and New York for television productions and in films, for example in Die unheimliche Macht (1983) with Jürgen Prochnow , in Spanking the Monkey (1994) with Jeremy Davies and in Hackers - Im Netz des FBI (1995) with Angelina Jolie . In 1996, after seven years of marriage, Watson separated from her husband and returned to Toronto alone.

Watson was best known for her role as Madeline in the dramatic agent series Nikita (1997-2001). She was also in the fourth season of the action series 24 with Kiefer Sutherland in the role of CTU boss Erin Driscoll . She starred in numerous films such as The Sweet Beyond by director Atom Egoyan and At Her Side (2005) with Julie Christie . Most recently, she appeared in the first two seasons of the 2010 remake of Nikita, in which she was seen as Senator Madeline Pierce from 2011 .

In 1998, at the end of the second season of Nikita , Watson fell ill with non-Hodgkin lymphoma . Watson lived in Toronto until her death and also spent time in her country home with her longtime boyfriend. She died in March 2015, shortly after her 60th birthday, at Kensington Hospice in Toronto of complications from longstanding cancer.
