Nikita is an American television series produced by Warner Bros. Television from 2010 to 2013 . The series is based on the French film Nikita by the director Luc Besson , the remake code name: Nina and the television series of the same name from 1997. It consists of 73 episodes that extend over four seasons and was released from September 9, 2010 to September 27, 2010 Broadcasted December 2013 on The CW . The main character of the series is Nikita, who was trained to be a killer by the secret organization Division . When her fiancé is killed by the division, she goes into hiding for three years and then does everything possible to bring the organization down.

Initial act

In contrast to the film and the television series with Peta Wilson , the new edition focuses on the time after Nikita left the division. In addition, the series is more based on the underlying film Nikita than the original series from 1997. In addition, several new characters were introduced in the remake.

The focus of the series is the secret organization division, which recruits young offenders in custody. Often this takes place shortly before the execution of the death sentence. By believing that they are dead, the division can give the newly won candidates a new identity, train them to be agents and killers and use them for mostly illegitimate purposes. Since it is Nikita's stated goal to stamp out the organization, there are many opponents within it. These include Percy, the unscrupulous head of the division, and Amanda, a senior member who specializes in psychological manipulation. In addition, Michael, who is responsible for the combat training of the recruits and who has already trained Nikita, turns out to be an adversary who is always closely on her track due to many years of operational experience with her. With the help of Alex, who Nikita was able to smuggle into the division's training program, she takes up the fight against the organization, with additional support and new enemies being added in the course of the further action.

characters

Nikita Mears

As a teenager, Nikita was placed in a foster family. Due to her troubled past, she got on the wrong track, which culminated in the fact that she shot a police officer. In prison, shortly before her execution, she was recruited by the division, which they present to Nikita as a second chance - an election in which she was not given any say. She is trained to be an agent and a murderer. However, during her physically and mentally tough and grueling training, she never loses her humanity and falls in love with a civilian named Daniel Monroe. But when her future fiancé is murdered by the division, Nikita realizes that the organization is behind it. She swears revenge, leaves the division and goes into hiding for three years. When she returns, she makes it her task, with the help of her protégé Alex, who has fetched her from the street, to destroy the division. It is characteristic of Nikita that her sense of morality and justice play an important role at all times, which is why she also develops great empathy for her colleagues. It is precisely this trait that turns out to be their greatest weak point, which Amanda and Percy exploit again and again.

Michael Bishop

Michael is a lieutenant in the intelligence agency and Percy's right-hand man. He is responsible for training the recruits and helping to organize operations, and he has many years of experience in the field. He also trained Nikita and secretly fell in love with her. Michael is responsible for tracking down Nikita and bringing her down, but he lets her escape several times because of the feelings for her, sometimes voluntarily and sometimes involuntarily. He often puts his hand in the fire for Alex, too, because in his eyes she is an extremely capable recruit. His loyalty to the division is extinguished when he learns that his wife Elisabeth and daughter Hailey were also killed in an attack by the organization, the actual target of which was supposed to be himself. From this point on, Michael acts as a double agent and joins Nikita's side until he finally also defected as an open renegade and was classified as an enemy of the remaining troops around the division.

Alexandra "Alex" Udinov

Alex is a 19 year old new recruit to the division. Similar to Nikita, she's had a bad time. After she witnessed the murder of her parents at the hands of Division as a child, her life was turned upside down. Haunted by her past, she ends up on the street as a drug addict and, as a prisoner of a human trafficker, also becomes acquainted with the milieu of forced prostitution. A few years later she was arrested for robbery and then "rescued" by the division. The organization does not know, however, that Alex's arrest is nothing but the culmination of Nikita's secret and long-term plan to infiltrate the division from within. Years ago, Nikita took care of her, went into rehab with her and trained her to prepare Alex for her time in the division and to be able to withstand the harassment there. After her decision to leave the division, Nikita secretly installed a program on their computer network, which serves as a rudimentary means of communication for her and Alex to influence the planned missions in the interests of the renegade agent. Alex can both obtain internal information for Nikita and achieve above-average performance on her assignments within the power structure of the division. As a result, Alex rises to a full-fledged agent after a short time, which means she can move freely outside of the headquarters, which also favors her existence as a double agent for Nikita. After it is revealed that she is still alive as Alexandra Udinov, sole heir to an influential Russian family empire, even though the entire clan was apparently wiped out by Division, Alex and Nikita try to keep their true identities a secret.

Seymour Birkhoff / Lionel Peller

Birkhoff was born under the name Lionel Peller. He is a computer genius, is often jokingly referred to as a " nerd " and made a name for himself in the hacking community as Shadow Walker because he illegally accessed the Pentagon network from home during his college days , which also enabled him to be used by the police Got into custody. He was recruited for the division at the same time as Nikita and works there as a computer administrator. He also gives the organization access to a wide range of data for ongoing missions, which he obtains with the help of the ShadowNet tool he programmed. He also received basic training with the division, although he hated to take up arms. His key position makes it inevitable that Birkhoff will have access to the division's inner circle as Percy entrusts him with some of his projects. This includes, among other things, the encryption of the so-called black boxes as well as the management of the kill chips specially developed for the organization . The former are seven external and encrypted data storage devices that contain all data on operations and government secrets, which Percy had made as a guarantee for his personal integrity and which would shake the world order if they came to light. The second are implants that were placed in each member of the division upon admission and serve as both a GPS tracker and a means of instant remote killing. When activated, it appears that the person in question has succumbed to a brain aneurysm, making the death unrelated to the division. Characteristic for Birkhoff is his style of expression, the casual style of clothing and his rebellious spirit, which comes more and more to the fore in the course of the series. Because he secretly misses Nikita and usually calls her "Nikki" in her acts of sabotage against the organization, he soon comes under suspicion of actually being on her side, which is also the case in the course of the series.

Helen "Amanda" Collins

Another high-ranking agent for the division, Amanda is a master of manipulation who she says can turn any ugly duckling into a swan and any wimp into a killer. All recruits spend part of the training time with her. Her psychological warfare, manipulations, and strategies are key to Percy's overall operations. This knowledge comes from her past, as she was abused as a child under her real name Helen as a test subject for cruel neurological examinations of her father. He kept her prisoner in the basement of her house for years to conduct behavioral experiments on her. However, she escapes, killing him and her twin sister, Amanda. As a favorite child, she was spared her father's cruelty, so Helen takes on the identity of Amanda. Only Nikita is the one who reveals her dark past to Amanda. By developing a fascination for Nikita that gradually becomes an obsession, Amanda can no longer think rationally when it comes to Nikita. So many operations by the Division under Amanda's leadership fail, and although she has several opportunities to kill Nikita, she is unable to do so.

Percival "Percy" rose

Percy is the ruthless leader and founder of the division. After Nikita swears revenge, he wants to do everything possible to kill her and protect his empire. He is more ruthless than he looks at first glance, which ultimately makes rational action impossible for him when it comes to Nikita, who sabotages many of his planned operations. In the course of the series, Percy craves more and more power and influence next to Nikita's death, which ultimately costs him his position in the division. Amanda becomes head of the organization and holds Percy as a prisoner in a glass cell within the division. There, however, due to his influence, he enjoyed some privileges that he was able to secure with the help of the "black boxes". There is enough incriminating material on these seven external data carriers, for example the customers of the division, which also includes the US government. This is also a life insurance for Percy, as in the event of his death this information would be published immediately. To protect the data on the hard drives from unauthorized access, Percy secretly trained so-called “guards” who protected these drives with their lives.

Sean Mason Pierce

Unlike many other agents in the Division, Sean was not recruited through the standard process of faking his death, but originally a member of the Navy SEALs . As part of his work for Oversight - a criminal organization made up of powerful politicians and business giants who pursue their own political goals and to whom the division is subject - he was responsible for overseeing the division after Percy left the management level. Here he meets Alex, whom he initially distrusts, which is why he is asked to seduce her, but in the further course of the series strives for a relationship with her. His mother, Senator Madeline Pierce, secretly acts as a founding member of that group. Sean's ultimate goal is to protect his mother, but he fails. He's torn between being an observer on behalf of Oversight and the woman he loves. Finally he also overflows on Nikita's side.

Owen Elliot / Sam Matthews

Owen is a so-called "cleaner". This designation characterizes those agents in the division who are responsible for tidying up and cleaning the crime scenes after an operation. Later in the series, Percy appoints him a guard and entrusts him with a "black box". During his time as a Sleeper, he falls in love with civilian Emily Robinson, although this is a clear violation of the division's policy. As part of an operation, Nikita learns about Owen's whereabouts, and thus also about the location of the "black box". He asks Percy to move, which he agrees to. However, Percy secretly plans his murder due to his rule violations and announces that he will join the operation himself, in the course of which Emily is killed. Owen swears revenge, turns his back on the division and Nikita at first, but later joins the resistance movement. Since his recruitment by the Division, Owen has suffered from memory loss that was brought about through surgery by Amanda. Through another such intervention in the course of the series, Owen regains his memories, whereby his former personality, Sam Matthews, returns.

Ryan Fletcher

The analyst is convinced of the idea of a conspiracy theory within the US power structure, which is true with regard to the existence of the division. On his own he recognizes certain patterns in recent events on the political scene and assigns them to an illegally operating mercenary unit. Before he goes public with it, Nikita gets in touch and informs him that the discovery of this group is reaching unpredictable catastrophic proportions and convinces him to withhold this information and to work with her. This cooperation culminates in Ryan's activity as head of the "new" division, which serves as a transition from a criminal organization as a means to an end for its long-term dissolution.
