Maggie Q (* 22. May 1979 in Honolulu , Hawaii as Margaret Denise Quigley ) is an American actress , fashion model and animal rights - activist .

life and career

The daughter of a half Polish, half Irish father and a Vietnamese woman began her career as a model in Japan and China . Maggie Q had her first acting role in 1997 in a Chinese television series. She then starred in several Asian films and had minor appearances in Rush Hour 2 , Around the World in 80 Days and The House of Harmony . In 2006 she starred alongside Tom Cruise , Michelle Monaghan and Simon Pegg in Mission: Impossible III , and in 2007 together with Bruce Willis , Timothy Olyphant and Mary Elizabeth Winstead in Die Hard 4.0 . In 2008 she played the role of Chase Linn in Need for Speed: Undercover . From 2010 to 2013 she played the title role Nikita in the television series of the same name and from 2014 to 2015 she played the lead role of Beth Davis, formerly Michelle Webber, in the television series Stalker . She also plays the role of Tori Wu in the films The Determination - Divergent (2014), The Determination - Insurgent (2015) and The Determination - Allegiant (2016).

At the beginning of her career, Maggie Q was trained and promoted by Jackie Chan . Since she attaches great importance to the authenticity of her numerous action and fight scenes, she largely refrains from being doubled by stunt women.

Animal rights activism and environmental protection

Maggie Q has been on a purely vegetable diet for 20 years and refuses to wear fur. For the animal rights organization PETA , she was depicted several times naked or dressed only in plants to promote vegetarianism and the fight against climate change by changing her diet. She said that giving up meat was one of the most rewarding decisions she has ever made. "I feel better, I have more energy on and off the set, and I have the satisfaction of knowing that I'm doing something to stop animal suffering." In 2008, Maggie Q was named Person of the Year by PETA Asia-Pacific appointed. In 2017, PETA named her one of the Three Sexiest Vegans .

Maggie Q is currently an Ambassador for the Animals Asia Foundation . Other organizations she supports are Save the Elephants , the Blue Sphere Foundation , the African Wildlife Foundation , WildAid and the Best Friends Animal Society. She also supports the marine conservation organization Sea Shepherd by attending their 40th anniversary celebration.

With Queep Up, Maggie Q has her own clothing line that recycles plastic from the oceans.
