The Chinese - South Korean co-production Three Kingdoms - The War of the Three Kingdoms (original title: 三國 之 見 龍 卸甲  /  三国之 见 龙 卸甲 , San guo zhi jian long xie jia ) is a literary adaptation of the work The Story of the Three Kingdoms by Luo Guanzhong .

Daniel Lee wrote the script together with Chan Chi-leung . Daniel Lee also directed it. The main actors in the film are Andy Lau (Zhao Ziling), Maggie Q (Cao Ying) and Sammo Hung (Pingan).

The film is set in the Age of the Three Kingdoms (208–280 AD). The protagonist Zhao Ziling comes from humble backgrounds, joins the army and is supported by Pingan. The three kings try to conquer the other kingdoms and thus to unite the country. Because of his heroism, Zhao quickly rises to the top ranks of the military. But the years go by and there is no foreseeable end to the war in sight. So the new king decides to go on a great campaign against the other rulers to bring about the end. Zhao embarks on his final campaign to consolidate his fame. Here he meets Cao Ying, the granddaughter of General Cao Cao from whom he took his sword in battle, and leads the army into battle against her.
