The house of harmony
The house of harmony (original title Perfect Harmony ) from 1998 is a book by the American writer Barbara Wood . In the locations of Palm Springs and Singapore , the story goes back to 1908.
Charlotte is an American entrepreneur of Chinese descent. She longs for her childhood sweetheart Jonathan. This gentleman also travels from Great Britain in the course of the plot. Charlotte's great-great-grandfather was a wealthy doctor in Singapore. The woman is accused of having killed three consumers who took poisoned natural medicinal products that were produced in her company Harmonie Biotech . Charlotte, however, is actually a perfect entrepreneur who wants only the best for her workers and employees. But just then, a stranger scratches the company's reputation. There is a riot there, and there are enough suspects:
- Agent Valerius Knight, African American, doesn't like Charlotte for personal reasons. Knight turns out to be an official who only investigates on behalf of the government.
- Mr. Sung, the elderly chief legal counsel for Biotech and a close friend of Charlotte's late grandmother, is said to have been the last to see said grandmother alive. Finally it turns out that the legal advisor is playing the hide-and-seek game of the grandmother, who is still living in the background, who tells the story.
- Who is writing Charlotte 's untraceable emails ? It can't be Jonathan. Because this computer security expert wants to help Charlotte.
Jonathan bugs the big company to track down the criminal. In the process it turns out that it was Desmond Barclay, Charlotte's half-brother.
At the end of the plot, Charlotte's grandmother turns out to be her mother. She managed Charlotte's company until she passed away at the age of 91. Every day she walked past the workplaces to the end.
Barbara Wood alternates telling stories in the present and Charlotte's grandmother in the past. In the grandmother passages, the family story is brought into the plot. The text is carefully crafted. In her last chapter, the grandmother / mother also switches to the present - the two narrative threads meet today.
