Celia tells a legend about a curse on the island, according to which a great love is destroyed at regular intervals, every fifty years. Then she tells the story of the teenager Silly, which happened a long time ago, and who has also lost her love. Claire then identifies with Silly and gains new courage.

background

Its world premiere took place on September 11, 2000 at the Toronto International Film Festival , which was followed in April 2001 by the Hong Kong International Film Festival . In Germany, the film was released directly on DVD in February 2003.

Reviews

Rachel Sanders wrote in the Apollo Movie Guide that the plot was predictable. The representations are mediocre; the leading actresses would either play too little or exaggerate and switch between different accents.

The lexicon of international films wrote that the film vacillates “indecisively between fairy tales, tragedies and psychological studies”, offers “hardly any surprises” and demands little from the actors. He tells a "very unimaginative story, whose Irish folk-inspired music is supposed to suggest depth".

Awards

Sheri Elwood won an award at the Canadian Sudbury Cinéfest in 2000 . The production design, the camera work and the editing were nominated for the Genie Award in 2002.
