Tom McCamus

Tom McCamus (born July 25, 1955 in Winnipeg , Manitoba ) is a Canadian actor in film and theater .

Life and accomplishments

McCamus was born in Winnipeg. His older brother is called Steve. He grew up from the age of ten in the Canadian city of London , in the province of Ontario . There he attended Oakland Secondary School . In 1977 he graduated from the University of Windsor in the city of Windsor as a Bachelor of Fine Arts (BFA).

McCamus first appeared in the cinema in the comedy Crazy Balloon (1989), where he starred under director Paul Donovan. In 1994 McCamus won the Dora Mavor Moore Award for his appearance in Beth Henley's play Abundance . He is a member of the Shaw Festival and Stratford Festival theater groups . In the Canadian city of Stratford he appeared in 1994 and 1995 as Edmund Tyrone in the play One Long Day, Journey into the Night by Eugene O'Neill . On stage he embodied the title roles in the plays Peter Pan by JM Barrie and in Androkolus and the Lion by George Bernard Shaw , Macheath in The Threepenny Opera by Bertolt Brecht , Horatio and later Hamlet in Hamlet and Richard in Richard III. , both by William Shakespeare .

McCamus is married to the stage actress Chick Reid. Together they appeared repeatedly in the theater, e.g. B. Love Letters by Albert Ramsdell Gurney and The Passion Of Narcisse Mondoux by Gratien Gélinas.

In addition, McCamus has portrayed over 50 roles in series, television and feature films in his career, for example in the two-time Oscar- nominated film drama The Sweet Beyond (1997) by Atom Egoyan with Ian Holm and Bruce Greenwood and in the film drama Das Reich und die Herrlichkeit (2000 ) by Michael Winterbottom with Peter Mullan and Milla Jovovich . In the science fiction series Mutant X he can be seen as the villain Mason Eckhart .

McCamus received a Genie Award and an award at the Mystfest in 1993 for the lead role in the film drama Hard Man in Uniform . In 1997, together with the drama ensemble, the National Board of Review awarded him the NBR Award for The Sweet Beyond . In 2006 McCamus won a Gemini Award for acting and an ACTRA Award for Waking Up Wally: The Walter Gretzky Story . He has also been nominated for various awards.
