Jakob Franzen

Jakob Franzen (* 27. June 1903 in Neuwied , † 21st December 1988 in Koblenz ) was a German politician of the CDU .

Life and work

After graduating from elementary school , Franzen, who was a Roman Catholic , initially worked as a postal worker from 1917 to 1919. He then completed an apprenticeship as a machine fitter and was involved in the Christian trade union. From 1923 to 1925 he attended the technical college in Munich and in 1927/28 the adult education center in Frankfurt am Main . There he made up the journeyman's examination and then studied for a year at the Academy of Labor . From 1929 to 1935 Franzen was secretary of the Christian metal workers' association in Saarbrücken , then managing director of the Catholic magazine publishing house in Wiebelskirchen . In 1941 he joined the Wehrmacht as a medical sergeant and was taken prisoner of war by the Americans during World War II , where he remained until 1945.

After 1945 Franzen participated in the founding of the ÖTV . Professionally, he initially worked for the Catholic Church in Saarland before becoming a trade supervisory inspector in Rhineland-Palatinate in 1946 . In 1949 he passed the administrative examination for the higher technical service and became chief commercial inspector. Franzen was married and had two children.

The
Franzen party participated in the founding of the CVP in Neunkirchen (Saar) in 1945 and became district chairman there. After moving to Rhineland-Palatinate , he joined the CDU in Koblenz . In 1947 he became deputy chairman of the CDU social committee in Rhineland-Palatinate and in 1949 chairman of the social committee in the Middle Rhine district . In 1952 he was elected chairman of the CDU district association Koblenz and in 1957 he became state chairman of the CDU social committee for Rhineland-Palatinate.
