Ethan Phillips
Ethan Phillips (born February 8, 1955 in Garden City , Long Island , New York ) is an American actor and author .
Life
Phillips' father was the owner of the famous New York steakhouse Frankie and Johnnie’s . He grew up in Garden City as the only boy among five sisters. When he was seven, he and his mother watched the horror series Panic and was very shocked to see what was happening to the people there. His mother had to explain to him that these people were actors who, in reality, would not get a hair down. Ethan loved the idea of getting money for miming other people. Even in high school he appeared in plays . At Boston University , he graduated in English then, the Master's in Fine Arts (MFA) at the Cornell University . A short time later he got his first roles in various Broadway and Off-Broadway productions.
Ethan Phillips has been married since 1990.
Career
Phillips has performed on many stages in the United States. His first supporting role in a Hollywood production was in Miloš Forman's Ragtime in 1981 . He was best known for his role as Neelix in the Star Trek television series Star Trek: Spaceship Voyager . Previously, he had a supporting role as Ferengi doctor Farek in the episode "The Ladies Troi" (Ménage à Troi) of the series Starship Enterprise: The Next Century . As a writer, he wrote the play Penguin Blues and was co-author of the Star Trek Cookbook .
