Allen Kelsey Grammer (born February 21, 1955 in Saint Thomas , US Virgin Islands ) is an American actor , musical artist and producer .

life and career

Grammer's career began as a Broadway actor, starring in Macbeth and Othello , before being cast on Cheers . Grammer was best known for the role of Dr. Frasier Crane , whom he first played from 1984 to 1993 in the television series Cheers . This character became so popular in Cheers that it subsequently became a spin-off called Frasier , which aired from 1993 to 2004. The last Frasier episode aired in the US on May 13, 2004 and was seen by 33.7 million viewers. Grammer played the role of Frasier that made him world famous for over twenty years - the longest period to date in which an American actor continuously played the same role (apart from appearances in soap operas ). In 2004, he surpassed the record of James Arness , who played the character of Marshal Matt Dillon in the US western series Smoking Colts (English Gunsmoke ) for almost twenty years.

Grammer's voice was heard in the original versions of the animated films Anastasia (1997) and Toy Story 2 (1999) as well as in the animated series The Simpsons , in which he spoke the sporadic character Tingeltangel-Bob (in the original Sideshow Bob ). Grammer made a musical contribution to Frasier as the interpreter of the title song. In the later seasons of Frasier , Grammer directed many episodes and earned credit as executive producer . From 2004 to 2011, Grammer was executive producer of the series Medium - Nothing Remains Hidden . In the same capacity, he has been involved in the series The Game since 2006 . In 1995, Grammer's autobiography was published . From October 2011 to October 2012, Grammer played the lead role in the television series Boss . The fictional "Kelsey Grammar School " named after him is often mentioned in the British sketch show Little Britain .

Grammer's German voice has been Frank-Otto Schenk since Frasier . Previously in Cheers , Randolf Kronberg lent him his voice. In the German-language versions of Boss and The Expendables 3 he was dubbed by Klaus-Dieter Klebsch and in Transformers: Ära des downfall by Ronald Nitschke .

Private

In 1975, Kelsey Grammer's sister, Karen, who was almost two years her junior, was kidnapped, abused and knifed in the throat. Believing she was already dead, she was left on a roadside in Colorado Springs . According to the coroner, the death occurred later due to the loss of blood. The then 20-year-old Kelsey had to identify the body of his 18-year-old sister.

Grammer is a Republican member and was a supporter of George W. Bush , whom he accompanied on his inauguration in 2001. In the 2008 presidential elections, Grammer initially supported the former mayor of New York Rudy Giuliani and, after he gave up his candidacy, Senator John McCain . He also supported the Republican candidate Mitt Romney in the 2012 presidential election and the Republican candidate Ben Carson and later President Donald Trump in 2016 .

Kelsey Grammer was married four times and has seven children. His daughters Spencer Grammer and Greer Grammer also work as actresses.

Grammer was nominated a total of 14 times for an Emmy Award , including 13 times for his role as Dr. Frasier Crane in the series Cheers and Frasier as well as a guest appearance in the same role on Überflieger . He received the award four times for his role as Frasier in the series of the same name and once for his guest speaker appearance on the Simpsons as Sideshow Bob .

In 2015, Grammer received a Golden Raspberry for Worst Supporting Actor for his roles in Transformers: Age of Downfall , The Expendables 3 , The Legend of OZ and Think Like a Man 2 .

In the course of his subsequent work, Grammer also received three Golden Globe Awards , two American Comedy Awards , a Daytime Emmy Award and a People's Choice Award .
