The award went to the composers David Shire and Norman Gimbel . Warnes then sang the song One More Hour , composed by Randy Newman , before she finally had her breakthrough in 1982/83 with Up Where We Belong , a duet with Joe Cocker for the film An Officer and a Gentleman . Leonard Cohen said of Warnes: “ If you want to hear what a woman is thinking, if you want to hear what a woman sounds like today, listen to Jennifer Warnes. "(German:" If you want to hear what a woman thinks, if you want to hear how a woman sounds today, listen to Jennifer Warnes. ")
