One More Hour is a movie song from the 1981 literary adaptation Ragtime , written by Randy Newman . Jennifer Warnes did the vocals . It was Newman's first song to be nominated for an Oscar for Best Song in a Motion Picture .

History of origin

Randy Newman wrote the complete music for the film Ragtime on behalf of director Miloš Forman . One More Hour came about when Newman had already finished the theme song. It serves as a counterpart to the title song, uses its melody, but with a counterpart, and ran over the credits . Jennifer Warnes, who won an Oscar in 1980 for the song It Goes Like It Goes from the film Norma Rae - A woman stands by her husband , did the vocals .

The song fits into the period shortly after the First World War and is kept in this style, although it was written several years later. The song fits the melancholy mood of the film, the singing is similar to that of Judy Collins .

reception

At the 1982 Academy Awards , the song was nominated for Best Movie Song. However, it lost to Arthur's Theme (Best That You Can Do) from Arthur - No Child of Sadness , written by Peter Allen , Burt Bacharach , Christopher Cross and Carole Bayer Sager . The same thing had happened at the 1982 Golden Globe Awards , which had been presented a month earlier. The song was the first of 20 Academy Award nominations Randy Newman received over the course of his career. In fact, he only won the trophy once: at the 2002 Academy Awards for If I Didn't Have You from the film Die Monster AG .
