It Goes Like It Goes is a song written by Jennifer Warnes in 1979.

background

It Goes Like It Goes was written by Norman Gimbel and composed by David Shire for the film Norma Rae - A woman stands by her husband . Jennifer Warnes interpreted the song under her pseudonym Jennifer Waren , which she used occasionally. The song is also included on their 1982 best-of album.

The song was named Best Song at the 1980 Academy Awards . A big surprise, because the favorite in the run-up was actually the song The Rose by Bette Midler from the film of the same name , which won the Golden Globe . But author Amanda McBroom had said in an interview that she actually did not compose the song for the film and was therefore not qualified for the Oscar due to the rules.

Cover version

Dusty Springfield released his own version of the song as a single in 1980 under the title It Goes Like It Goes (Theme from Norma Rae) .
