Tanita Tikaram (2019)

Tanita Tikaram (born August 12, 1969 in Münster ) is a British singer-songwriter . She became internationally known in 1988 with the song Twist in My Sobriety .

Personal

Her father Pramod Tikaram came from the Indian population on the Fiji islands, her mother Fatimah Rohani was Malaysian . They met in England and moved to Münster , Westphalia , because Pramod Tikaram was stationed there in the service of the British Army . In the British Military Hospital Münster (BMH, British Military Hospital) Tanita Tikaram was born; at the age of twelve she went to Basingstoke in England with her parents .

Tanita Tikaram's older brother is actor Ramon Tikaram .

Tikaram moved from Basingstoke to Primrose Hill , where she still lives. She has been in a relationship with media artist Natacha Horn since 2012.

Career

Tikaram was discovered by manager Paul Charles at The Mean Fiddler nightclub , now known as Astoria 2 , in London . As a musical influence she gives the songs of Joni Mitchell . In September 1988 her debut album Ancient Heart was released , which was successful with over four million records sold and marked the international breakthrough for Tikaram at the age of 19. The album also features the hit single Twist in My Sobriety . With their successor singles and albums, however, Tikaram could no longer build on the commercial success of Twist in My Sobriety . For the 1991 album Everybody's Angel , she recorded two songs with Jennifer Warnes .
