Twist in My Sobriety is a pop song by Tanita Tikaram . It was released in autumn 1988 as the second single from the album Ancient Heart and reached the top ten of the charts in Germany, Austria and Switzerland.

history

The piece, written by Tikaram himself, was produced by Rod Argent and Peter Van Hooke. Van Hooke also played the drums , Argent the keyboards , Tanita Tikaram the guitar . Oboe sounds accompany the slow song. They were played by Malcolm Messiter. The song begins with the line of text “All God's children need traveling shoes”, the title of a 1986 book by Maya Angelou .

The piece brought Tikaram comparisons with Suzanne Vega and Tracy Chapman . Twist in My Sobriety reached number 2 in Germany and Austria , number 6 in Switzerland and number 22 in the United Kingdom. In 2001, the title for the soundtrack for the film became Bandits! ( Bandits ) used.

Cover versions

In 1989 Liza Minnelli covered the song for her album Results , which was produced by the Pet Shop Boys . There are also many other versions of one by the Hungarian singer Kati Kovács (1989) and by the German metal band Dreadful Shadows (1999). The German techno - DJ Justus Köhncke published in 2016 on his album At All (2016) with Gina D'Orio , a German cover version under the title A tear in my sobriety .
