Alfred Gerasch (born August 17, 1877 in Berlin , † August 12, 1955 in Vienna ) was a German actor .

Life

After taking lessons from Wilhelm Hock , Gerasch first appeared at the Bellevuetheater in Stettin in 1896 . In 1897 he came to Hamburg and 1898 to Oldenburg . In 1899 he reached Karlsruhe , from there he went to Vienna in 1907, where he became a member of the ensemble at the Burgtheater .

The later court actor made his film debut in a son role in Vienna at the age of 42. He then moved to Berlin , where he was active both on stage and in film. Until 1937 he took on numerous supporting roles. He often portrayed high-ranking historical personalities such as Talleyrand in Queen Luise , King Louis XV. in Marquis d'Eon, the spy of Pompadour (both 1928), Tsar Alexander I in Napoleon on St. Helena (1929), Conrad von Hötzendorf in 1914, the last days before the world fire (1931), Metternich in Marschall Vorwärts ( 1932), again Talleyrand in Hundert Tage (1935), Field Marshal Daun in Fridericus (1937) and, most recently, Marc Aurel in The world turns upside down (1947). Gerasch lived in Vienna from 1937 and only gave a few guest performances; after 1945 he restricted his work even more.
