Reckless Youth is a German black and white sound film from 1931 directed by Leo Mittler with Camilla Horn , Walter Rilla and Alfred Gerasch . It was filmed by Paramount Pictures at the Joinville-le-Pont studios as a remake of the American films Manslaughter in 1922 and 1930.

Lydia Torn is a spoiled young woman from a wealthy family who believes that anything can be got for money. One day, out of recklessness, she causes an accident in which a motorcyclist is killed. At the trial she meets prosecutor Dan O'Bannon. She is sentenced to prison for manslaughter.

The screenplay was written by Hermann Kosterlitz and Benno Vigny based on the novel "Manslaughter" by Alice Duer Miller . The filming locations were Paramount Studios, as well as Joinville-le-Pont and Val-de-Marne in France.

It is the fifth adaptation of the film that was first filmed as a silent film in 1922 under the title Manslaughter , directed by Cecil B. DeMille with Leatrice Joy and Thomas Meighan in the two leading roles. In 1930 there was a remake as a sound film directed by George Abbott with Claudette Colbert and Frederic March in the leading roles. In 1931 Paramount brought out a French version under the title "The Indictment" / "Le réquisitoire", directed by Dimitri Buchowetzki . Another version, produced by Paramount and directed by Leo Mittler, was released in 1931 under the title “La incorrigibile”. The main roles were played by Eriquetta Serrano and Tony d'Algey.
