Benno Vigny (born October 28, 1889 in Commercy , † October 31, 1965 in Munich ) was a Franco-German writer and screenwriter .

Live and act

Vigny grew up in Vienna and came to Berlin in the 1920s . There he began to work as a screenwriter in collaboration with colleagues, especially for German-British co-productions.

In 1927, his novel Amy Jolly, the woman from Marrakech , was published, the film adaptation of which under the title Morocco 1930 founded Marlene Dietrich's Hollywood career in the USA . Another novel published by him in 1927 was titled Nell John. The novel of a young woman .

At the beginning of the 1930s, Vigny went to Paris and wrote there, again in collaboration with fellow authors, for international co-productions. The little-known film Bariole remained his only own production.

After that, Vigny only occasionally found connection to the film scene as a screenwriter. The last time he was involved in a film was the co-script for Der Verlorene , the ambitious but little publicized debut production by Peter Lorre . He spent his old age in Munich.
