Gary Sinise
Gary Alan Sinise (born March 17, 1955 in Blue Island , Illinois ) is an American actor , director and musician .
Life
Gary Sinise was born in Blue Island , Illinois in 1955 to Mylles S. (nee Alsip) and Robert L. Sinise. Sinise's paternal grandfather was Italian. Robert L. Sinise is a film editor by profession and in this capacity also worked in 1992 on the acting and directing work of his son Von Mäusen und Menschen . As a teenager, Gary Sinise attended Highland Park High School in Highland Park , Illinois.
Before starting his cinema career, Sinise mainly worked in the theater. Together with Terry Kinney and Jeff Perry , he founded the Steppenwolf Theater Company in Chicago in 1974 . There he took on roles in numerous productions and also acted as producer and director of several pieces.
With his directorial works Miles from Home and Von Mäusen und Menschen he also established himself as an actor in Hollywood and manifested this through roles in Apollo 13 , The Green Mile and Mission to Mars, among other things . For his performance as Lt. Dan Taylor in Forrest Gump , he was at the Academy Awards in 1995 as best supporting actor nomination. Through the crime series CSI: NY , in which he played Detective Mac Taylor , he became known to a broad television audience from 2004.
His German dubbing voice is Tobias Meister .
Since 2003 he has played bass in the Lieutenant Dan Band , which he founded - named after the film character played by Sinise in Forrest Gump . This band performs for charitable purposes, mostly to support disabled American veterans - for example for the United Service Organizations and also for Operation Iraqi Children , a campaign launched by Sinise , which supplies schools in Iraq with school supplies.
Sinise is known in Hollywood as a supporter of the Republicans and in 2004 co-founded the organization Friends of Abe , which acts as a conservative network in Hollywood. His public support for the party and its presidential candidates ended abruptly with Donald Trump's successful candidacy , against which he spoke out clearly from the start. The 1,500 members of Friends of Abe , including Sinise and Clint Eastwood and Kelsey Grammer , dissolved the organization in its then form in April 2016 (in the face of the Republican presidential candidacies) in order to "return to the roots of its origins" - a " small project out of passion, without the complex infrastructure, the major events and the personnel costs. ”The aforementioned major events had also included lectures by well-known Republicans, including Trump, which for years after his controversial candidacy in the exclusive club had been a dispute cared.
In 1976 Sinise met actress Moira Harris . Harris had just completed her acting degree and joined the young ensemble at the Steppenwolf Theater. They married in 1981 and have three children together.
