action
Telly's son Sam was killed in a plane crash just over a year ago . The mother has not yet coped with this stroke of fate. She has been suffering from depression since then and is with psychiatrist Dr. Munce in treatment. But then all of a sudden strange changes occur. All of her son's memorabilia (videos, photos) that Telly carefully kept are gradually disappearing. The matter becomes very puzzling when suddenly both Munce and her husband vehemently deny that Sam ever existed. They claim that Telly is delusional and the memory of the child is only imaginary.
Telly is desperate and confused. But then she meets the former professional ice hockey player Ash Correll, whose daughter Lauren was killed in the same crash. Ash became an alcoholic with the loss of his daughter, but he can only remember the cause of his addiction after Telly's desperate influence. The two conduct investigations together, which ultimately also call the NSA on the scene.
They find out that numerous children have been abducted by aliens. But the parents are the actual test object: The aliens want to find out how strong the relationships between parents and their children are. Telly is the only one who never forgot her child. One of the aliens reveals himself to her and tries to snatch the last memories of her son from her, but fails. When Telly returns home, everything is as it was before the two children disappeared; all but Telly have no memory of what happened after the children's disappearance.
criticism
film-dienst 23/2004: Excitingly staged and oppressively played mystery thriller, which loses a lot of its persuasiveness through a banal ending.
