Joe Roth (born July 13, 1948 in New York City ) is an American film director , film producer and former CEO of 20th Century Fox (1989–1993) and Walt Disney Studios (1994–2000).

Life

Joe Roth was born to Lawrence Roth, a foreman at a plastics factory. In 1959 he assisted his father in supporting an attempt by the American Civil Liberties Union to ban prayer in public schools. The lawsuit was upheld by the United States Supreme Court in 1962, and public prayer was ruled unconstitutional. The case is under the name Engel v. Vitale became known.

Joe Roth is married to producer Donna Roth , making him the brother-in-law of producer Lou Arkoff and the son-in-law of the late film producer Samuel Z. Arkoff .
