action

The little boy Roger Bomman lives with a foster mother. He wants to be with his father, a biker, and asks him when they would be family again. His father sarcastically replies, "If the California Angels win." Roger prays to God to help the Angels . Then, with the help of angels , the California Angels win their games.

Roger sees which players are supported by the angels, so he becomes an advisor to the manager of the baseball team , George Knox. Meanwhile, his father waives custody in court . Sports reporter Ranch Wilder doubts Roger's clairvoyant abilities, sparking a discussion about questions of faith.

The team wins the game for the championship, although this time no angels appear. Ranch is laid off. Knox adopts Roger and JP

Reviews

Roger Ebert derided in the Chicago Sun-Times of July 15, 1994 that he always had doubts as to why God should interfere in sports games. The film reduces itself to its formula ("movie then reduces itself to a formula") between baseball games and the improvement of the human character. It is a "stupid" film with the "soggy sentimentality".

Film-Dienst wrote that the "fairytale-like features" were "spiced up a bit by modern computer special effects, but the vividly drawn characters were not lost sight of". "The straightforward staging and the actors acting with a visible playful mood" would "skillfully maintain the balance between emotion and humor".

Awards

William Dear, Joseph Gordon-Levitt and the film for Best Fantasy Film were nominated for the Saturn Award in 1995 . Milton Davis junior was nominated for the Young Artist Award in 1995 .
