Roger Birnbaum

Roger Andrew Birnbaum (born November 14, 1950 in Teaneck , New Jersey ) is an American film producer .

Roger Birnbaum was born in Teaneck , New Jersey. His father worked in the textile and construction industries. In 1968 Birnbaum finished school at Teaneck High School. Among his classmates were the film critic Leonard Maltin and the composer Alan Silvestri . Silvestri and Birnbaum were close friends in high school and continued this friendship later in Hollywood. Birnbaum studied entertainment and music at the University of Denver . However, he left this a year before graduation to begin his musical career. He worked as Vice President of A&R for A&M Records and Arista Records .

Birnbaum began his work in the film business in 1983 with the production of television films. He served as Production President for United Artists and then President of Worldwide Production and Executive Vice President of Twentieth Century Fox and President of Caravan Pictures . Then with his business partner Gary Barber founded the production, finance and sales company Spyglass Entertainment in Los Angeles . He joined Metro-Goldwyn-Mayer as Co-Chairman and Chief Executive Officer in December 2010 , a position he left in October 2012. At Spyglass, he continued to hold the post of administrative co-chairman. Birnbaum has produced numerous feature films and participates in feature films and music productions, foreign distribution companies and exhibitions.

Birnbaum is a member of the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences , holds an honorary doctorate in humanities from the University of Denver, and is a board member of YES , a foundation that provides educational grants for disadvantaged children.
