action

Kevin Franklin, who once grew up in a Catholic orphanage, only dreams of making as much money as possible. So he uses every opportunity to get money in Pittsburgh . But you have to invest money in order to make money. To do this, he borrowed $ 5,000 from Happy Marcelli, who now wants either $ 50,000 or his head with compound interest and overdraft fees. To carry out this job, he sends the two brothers Pauly and Joey Gasperini out. Kevin then flees and is lucky that the Young family is at Pittsburgh International Airport . She's waiting there for Gary Young's oldest friend, Dr. Derek Bond. Since he has not seen him for 25 years, Kevin takes the opportunity to pretend to be Derek and spend a weekend with the Youngs in Sewickley , which means that he manages to escape from Pauly and Joey for the time being.

However, he cannot escape the family, because after he has barely survived the career day at the children's school, he also has to insist on Gary and Emily's party. He always manages to draw attention to something other than himself with his flippant sayings, which is why everyone considers him the humorous down-to-earth and brilliant dentist who is supposedly Derek Bond. However, he also recognizes that there are cracks in the Young family, which manifest themselves in excessive ambition and disputes. Kevin stays out of it and has to flee again himself after he learned that his old friend Larry betrayed him and now Pauly and Joey know where he is. On the run, he buys a lottery ticket with the last of his money and after a few blocks runs into Pauly and Joey. They chase him, and Kevin manages the temporary escape, only thanks to an ignorant Gary, who also takes him to the golf.

But Pauly and Joey follow him to the golf club, where they sneak in and chase Kevin across the course. Kevin can maintain his disguise by saying that the game variant Tempogolf would be more fun, but the two gangsters persist. It is only by chance that they are prevented and Kevin has to act as Dr. Derek Bon performing an operation on Mr. Pike, Gary's boss. With luck he can do this and the camouflage remains upright. However, he also knows that the two of them are still looking for him outside, which is why he is initially serving the family. In doing so, he learns that there are more problems in the family than he originally thought. Jason can't cope with his father's pressure, Brooke is unhappily in love with ST-3, and Emily is unhappy that her business competitor is also looked after by Gary's company.

After Kevin discovers that his only ticket has hit the jackpot, he sees an opportunity to escape. But on the way he realizes that he has to turn back to save the family. He takes care of ST-3, makes Gary pay more attention to Jason and quits his job in favor of his new job with his wife. Satisfied, he returns home with Gary and Emily, where they find Pauly and Joey, who have the children as hostages and who are now taking Kevin with them. After finding out that Kevin Franklin is not Derek Bond and that the actual Derek Bond is an obnoxious person, Gary decides to help him. He follows them and manages to pick up the fleeing Kevin and forge a plan with him to let the gangsters do the lottery tickets in order to save his life. After doing this, he spends happy days with the Young family.

criticism

“Good-natured family comedy, which despite good leading actors and lots of puns and slapstick interludes remains too good and harmless. While the apparently middle-class family idyll is first unmasked, the last third tries with moralizing impetus to get the family members back on the right track. "
