Marilyn Eastman

Marilyn Eastman (born December 17, 1933 in Beaver , Iowa , † August 22, 2021 in Tampa , Florida ) was an American actress . She was best known for the role of Helen Cooper in George A. Romero's horror classic The Night of the Living Dead .

Life

Eastman was born in Iowa and moved to Pittsburgh in the 1960s . There she initially worked as a radio presenter and founded the production company Hardman / Eastman, Inc. with her husband John F. Eastman and Karl Hardman in the mid-1960s .

Film career

Eastman got his first acting experience on television in the 1960s. In 1960, for example, she played the protagonist's secretary in the Perry Mason episode The Case with the Bank Robber's Money . In 1968, George A. Romero cast her for his horror classic The Night of the Living Dead . She was executive producer on this film with Romero and Hardman. She also did the make-up and props . She then worked mainly in the independent film genre and shot mostly B-movies , including the horror thriller Night of the Black Mass , which began in 1975 but never ended . In 1995 she made a cameo in Der Hausfreund and in 1996 in Santa Claws .

Personal

She was married to screenwriter and presenter John F. Eastman. From this marriage their son John emerged, who later followed in his parents' footsteps as an independent filmmaker and actor. Eastman was close friends with Karl Hardman and was godmother to his daughter Kyra Schon , who also played the daughter of his character Harry in The Night of the Living Dead . Eastman lived in Tampa , Florida .
