John Debney

John C. Debney (born August 18, 1956 in Glendale , California ) is an American film composer .

Life

Debney, whose father Louis was employed as a producer at Disney Studios , grew up near Glendale and graduated from the California Institute of the Arts (CalArts) in 1979 .

He is best known for his film scores , including a number of Walt Disney productions. Together with David Hartley and Sting, he wrote the soundtrack of the cartoon A Kingdom for a Lama ( The Emperor's New Groove , 2000). Debney was nominated for an Oscar for his music for The Passion of the Christ and won the Film & Television Music Award from the American Society of Composers, Authors and Publishers . He received the Emmy Award three times (including for the music for the TV series SeaQuest DSV ) and was nominated twice for this award.

In addition to numerous film soundtracks, John Debney also wrote or arranged some pieces of music for Disney theme parks around the world, for example for the haunted house attraction Phantom Manor in Disneyland Paris and the Spectromagic light parade in Walt Disney World in Florida.
