In "Best" Company - A Family to Wean is a British comedy romance directed by Eric Styles from 2000. It is based on the play Relative Values by Noël Coward .
action
In the early 1950s, the tabloids rushed: the aristocrat Nigel Marshwood and the famous film actress Miranda Frayle are a couple and that shortly after the relationship between Miranda and her long-time film partner Don Lucas broke up. While Nigel and Miranda headed for the Marshwoods property not far from London from Hollywood, the Marshwood house is in turmoil. Felicity Marshwood is against the relationship, but remains calm with her angry noble friends. She is supported by her laconic nephew Peter Ingleton, who is rather amused by his cousin Nigel's new affair. On the other hand, Moxie, who has been Felicity's attendant and her closest confidante for almost 20 years, is less than enthusiastic: she soon confesses to Felicity that Miranda is her younger sister, but that neither of them has spoken to each other for 20 years. Felicity, Peter and the kind-hearted butler Frederick Crestwell turn Moxie into "Lady Moxton" and want to pretend to Miranda that she has inherited rich and is a friend of the family. So she should face Miranda on an equal footing and in the best case not be recognized by her at all, because Moxie threatens to leave the family, as she could never live under one roof with Miranda.
Miranda and Nigel appear and Miranda, when asked about her sister, tells us that she was alcoholic and had long since passed away. Miranda describes her childhood as a life in poverty. Moxie is outraged but is reassured by Felicity and Peter. Don Lucas appears at the Marshwoods estate and is immediately invited by Felicity to stay the night. It soon becomes apparent that Miranda still has feelings for her ex-boyfriend and Felicity does everything so that both can spend time together. When Miranda revels in her childhood again, Moxie has enough: she presents herself as her sister and accuses her of drawing the wrong picture of herself, her sister and her family. Her name is not Miranda, but Freda and comes from a normal middle-class family. Horrified, Miranda escapes to her room.
The next morning there was a discussion between Miranda and Felicity, who announced that she was against marrying Nigel. This is followed by an argument between Miranda and Nigel and Felicity's discussion with Don Lucas, whom she convinces of Miranda's love. In the end, Miranda separates from Nigel in the morning and drives off with Don Lucas. Like every Sunday, Nigel, Peter and Felicity go to church as if nothing had happened - which, according to Felicity, is basically true.
