Jeanne Marie Tripplehorn (born June 10, 1963 in Tulsa , Oklahoma ) is an American actress .

life and career

After graduating from high school , Jeanne Tripplehorn worked under the name "Jeanie Summers" as a DJ on the radio station KMOD in Tulsa. From the early 1990s she appeared as an actress in film and television and played major roles in Basic Instinct (1992) alongside Sharon Stone and Michael Douglas and The Company (1993) alongside Gene Hackman and Tom Cruise . 1995 followed the female lead alongside Kevin Costner in the then most expensive film Waterworld (1995). Her continued success for her television work was modest in the late 2000s. The lead role in the drama series Big Love , in which she starred as the wife of a polygamist (played by Bill Paxton ), earned her two Satellite Award nominations in 2006 and 2007 . In 2009 her portrayal of Jacqueline Kennedy Onassis in the television film Gray Gardens was honored with an Emmy nomination. From 2012 to 2014 she starred in the series Criminal Minds . She left the series after the ninth season.

In 2017 she was accepted into the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences (AMPAS), which awards the Oscars every year.

Tripplehorn has been married to fellow actor Leland Orser since October 14, 2000 and has a son with him.
