Scuttle is free social bookmarking software based on PHP and MySQL . It was developed by Marcus Campbell and distributed as free software also in source code under the terms of the GNU General Public License (GPL). The first release (version 0.1.0) took place on March 21, 2005.
Functions
Scuttle supports basic functions such as social tagging , public and private links, user management and multiple languages. It is also possible to import bookmarks from the local web browser and from the popular social bookmarking website delicious . It largely supports the programming interface of delicious, which means that numerous software tools written for delicious can also work with Scuttle after minor adjustments. However, there is no administrator backend , the settings are made directly via text files. The further development Semantic Scuttle offers captchas to protect against spam and some other functions, the commercially available Scuttle Plus offers the missing administrator backend. Data backups can be made via MySQL administration tools or via an XML output of all entries. It offers an RSS feed that can be used to automatically query the latest changes. Saved bookmarks can be made visible across the web, only accessible to registered users or made private.
