Conny Carstennsen even Carlo Carstennsen , actually Friedrich Wirth (* 8. December 1888 in Colmar , Alsace , † 14. June 1957 in Wiesbaden ) was a German actor , film director and -producer , production and location manager .

Life

Friedrich Wirth completed an apprenticeship as a hairdresser and wig maker from 1903 to 1906. He then worked as a hairdresser until 1913. In addition, Wirth made his first attempts as an actor at the Colmar theater association and chose the stage name Conny Carstennsen for this profession. His field of activity was predominantly Alsatian dialect. In addition, he tried himself as a cabaret organizer and performed his own hand shadow games. During the First World War he served in the imperial army for the entire four years, after which the new French rulers expelled him from Alsace in 1919.

In Heidelberg Carstennsen performed as an artist in the same year and thus came into contact with the "Oberrheinische Filmwerke Schlierbach-Ziegelhausen". Carstennsen was seen as an actor for two years from 1919, where he also interpreted a small film series named after his artist name. At first Carstennsen often played in grotesque and detective films; in some of these films he gave the villain and impostor Tom Kay, opponent of the "world detective Ferry White". In addition, he was one of the pioneers of western actors in German silent film production. Sometimes he also took on directing his films. From the mid-1920s onwards he worked many times as a production manager for feature films, and later for the productions of Minerva-Tonfilm . Despite his involvement in some trend and propaganda films in this role, Carstennsen managed to find employment in film until shortly before his death.

In 1951, Carstennsen was hired as production manager by the Hamburg “Standard-Film GmbH”, two years later in the same position in Wiesbaden by the companies “Meteor-Film” and “Eva-Film” and in this position was involved in productions by Helmut Käutner and Rudolf Jugerts involved. Carstennsen's last works include productions by Karl Ritter .
