Jerry Rix , real name Geertjan Lacunes (born June 19, 1947 in Amsterdam , † January 3, 2016 in Rhodes , Greece ) was a Dutch singer , mainly known as a disco , pop and pop singer .

Life

Jerry Rix was the son of the singer and variety artist Toby Rix (* 1920 - † 2017), whose real name is Tobias Lacunes. His father was a frequent guest on the Rudi Carrell Show , among other things . His sister is the actress Maroesja Lacunes (* 1945).

In 1964 Jerry Rix released his first single Ebb Tide , then under the pseudonym Gerry Rix . In 1967 he took part in the Belgian Knokke Festival in Knokke-Heist for the Netherlands together with Patricia Paay . In 1967 he took fifth place at a song festival in Romania .

In the early 1970s, he appeared on German television with German titles. He appeared for the first time in 1970 in the ZDF magazine Die Drehscheibe , in January 1971 for the first time in the ZDF hit parade and was also a guest on the Rudi Carrell Show during this period. Overall, he was represented three times in the turntable and three times in the hit parade show as a singer. In May 1973, we then saw him in the music show Music from Studio B . In 1974 he was a member of the Love Generation vocal ensemble .

His most successful title appeared in 1976. Disco Train reached number 24 in the annual evaluation of the WDR - Schlagerrallye in 1976 and number 35 in the US hot dance / disco charts and number 92 in the R&B charts in 1977 .

From the mid-1970s he also began working as a studio singer and songwriter for well-known performers, for example Donna Summer , La Bionda , Boney M. , Joy Fleming , Anja Hauptmann , Gitte Hænning and many more. The male voice on all records for the women's pop group Silver Convention also comes from him.

In a duet with Linda G. Thompson , he released the singles You are to blame for our children to look like you (1978) and Weekend (1979). With the latter song, both competed in the German preliminary decision for the Eurovision Song Contest in 1979 and reached eleventh place. In 1981 he formed a band called "Lo Budget And The Raincoats" which released a single.

Rix lived with his wife Jutta, née Mairiedl, in the village of Lachania on Rhodes , Greece . and died there on January 3, 2016 from complications from his prostate cancer.
