Love Generation was a German singing ensemble founded in Munich in 1969 . It existed until 1978.

history

The group was founded by Gregor Cornely (bourgeois Gregor Wilczek), Gitta Walther (later Gitta MacKay), the Danish Birgit Laury and Linda Uebelherr (later Linda G. Thompson). All were previously members of the Cornely Singers founded by Gregor Wilczék's father Frank Cornély-Wilczek (better known as Frank Cornely ) in 1964 . Frank Cornely worked for Love Generation as a producer, composer and lyricist.

Shortly after it was founded, United Artists Records released the single Rosarot Himmelblau . Joe Kienemann joined them in the first year . In 1970 the self-named debut album was released with a series of German pop cover songs . In 1971 Joe Kienemann and Linda Uebelherr left the band. Uebelherr joined the Les Humphries Singers . In addition, the Scots Don Adams and Christina Harrison (now Christina Voormann ), who became known under the name Christina May in 1969 and was already married to the musician Martin Harrison at the time , were added to Love Generation . Don Adams married Gitta Walther, who took his real surname MacKay. At the turn of 1971/1972 the band in the New Year's Eve show was ZDF - Show by us for you to see. On December 11th before that, they appeared for the first time in the ZDF series disco , in which they were seen a total of four times until 1976.

In 1972, Here we are, the first album in English, was released. The tracks Picture Perfect In My Mind and Something To Believe In were released a year later as a single. The third album was released in 1973. In the same year, the advertising song "Take the great, real freshness" sung for the chewing gum manufacturer Wrigley became known from television advertising . After Gregor Cornely left the formation at the end of 1973, he was replaced in 1974 by the Dutchman Jerry Rix . Gregor Cornely stepped in briefly in 1975. In 1974 the album Lovely was released , on which the tracks of the 1973 single Goin 'Downtown can be heard. Don Adams left the ensemble in 1974. Adams also joined the Les Humphries Singers. For Adams came Peter Hedrich, better known by his later stage name Peter Kent . Timothy Touchton then took the original place of Gregory Cornely in 1975 and for Harrison Lucy Neale was added, who had released a solo single in 1974 under the pseudonym Lucy O'Day.

In 1975 Love Generation took part in the German preliminary decision for the Eurovision Song Contest with the song Hör 'again Radio and shared third place with Mary Roos . This is where Christina Harrison made her last appearance with the group. She initially tried a solo career, e.g. B. with a German version of the world hit "SOS" by ABBA, which she was also able to present in the ZDF hit parade. "Listen to the radio again" was also featured on the album Sing, Sing, Sing! published whose tracks are all sung in German. Also in 1976 the formation took part in the German preliminary decision for the Eurovision Song Contest and reached fifth place with the song about the inventor Thomas Alva Edison . This title appeared as the A-side of a single and reached the top 50 of the German airplay charts . The last album Our Kind Of Music from 1976 is again in English. After Timothy Touchton left the band in 1977, Love Generation released a single as a quartet in 1978.

In 1981, Übelherr, Harrison, Neale and Walther had considerable success as "The Hornettes" with the title "Mannequin" penned by Ralph Siegel and Bernd Augener. They finished second behind Lena Valaitis in the German preliminary decision for the Eurovision Grand Prix. After that they had numerous live and television appearances and accompanied as choir singers a. a. Udo Juergens. Her Grand Prix title was also in the Top 50 of the Media Control Charts.
