The railway line La Roche-sur-Foron-Saint-Gervais is a standard gauge railway line in the French department of Haute-Savoie in the region of Auvergne Rhône-Alpes . It belongs to the state rail infrastructure company SNCF Réseau .

Route

The line branches off at La Roche-sur-Foron from the higher-level Aix-les-Bains – Annemasse railway line . Following the valley of the Arve , which rises to the southeast, it ends at the foot of the Mont-Blanc massif . The terminus is the communal station Saint-Gervais-les-Bains-Le Fayet in the village of Le Fayet in the municipality of Saint-Gervais-les-Bains .

The meter- gauge narrow - gauge railways via Chamonix to Martigny and the Tramway du Mont-Blanc cogwheel train to the 2362 meter high Nid d'Aigle viewpoint begin there .

The "Déclaration d'utilité publique" was issued for the section from La Roche-sur-Foron to Cluses on April 4, 1881.

As part of and under the terms of the Freycinet plan , the concession for the construction and operation of the line was awarded to the Compagnie des chemins de fer de Paris à Lyon et à la Méditerranée (PLM) on November 20, 1883 . This section was commissioned on June 1, 1890.

As a precaution, the section from Cluses to Saint-Gervais was licensed to PLM on August 2, 1886. The “Déclaration d'utilité publique” was granted on March 31, 1891 for this 22-kilometer route. On June 15, 1898, operations began on the entire route.

Infrastructure

The line has been electrified with 25 kV 50 Hz AC voltage since 1955 . It is also equipped with the manual block and the Contrôle de vitesse par balises (KVB). The maximum speed is usually between 100 and 130 km / h. The narrowest arc radius of the route is located near the former Balme - Arâches stop , at 300 meters. There the speed is limited to 80 km / h.

Passenger trains are operated by the national railway company Société nationale des chemins de fer français (SNCF). The TER Rhône-Alpes trains run on the route in regional traffic and TGV high-speed trains in long-distance traffic . The Z 27500 , Z 9500 and Z 9600 series are used in regional transport .
