Burkhard Oly

Burkhard Oly (born July 10, 1938 in Bad Orb ; † April 18, 2008 in Hanau ) was a German sculptor and goldsmith .

Life

In 1957, Burkhard Oly began training at the State Drawing Academy in Hanau together with his future wife . Monika and Burkhard Oly married in 1960 and in 1963 set up a joint gold and silversmith's workshop and a sculptor's atelier in Wirtheim .

In 1963, Oly was awarded the Bavarian State Prize and in 1971 the Great Silver Prize of Mexico.

In the 1970s and 80s, the precious metal stamp designed by Oly with a smile, made up of the three letters of the family name, became a trademark in jewelry design. Today the name Oly is registered as a trademark with the German Patent and Trademark Office for jewelery and jewelery as well as chronometric instruments.

From 1971 onwards, the couple set up a gallery in Gelnhausen that focuses on contemporary European design and handicrafts.

In 2008 Burkhard Oly died of cancer, which he had been fighting against since 2005. He was married to the goldsmith Monika Oly, with whom he has a son.
