The Giffre is a mountain river in France that runs in the Haute-Savoie department in the Auvergne-Rhône-Alpes region . The headwaters are located in the border area with Switzerland , in the Bout du Monde basin , on the southwest flank of Grand Mont Ruan (3,057 m). The Giffre has its origin at the confluence of several source streams in the municipality of Sixt-Fer-à-Cheval , initially drains generally in a westerly direction, then turns abruptly to the south and flows into the Arve after 46 kilometers at Marignier as a right tributary .
