Domancy is a French commune in the department of Haute-Savoie in the region of Auvergne Rhône-Alpes .
geography
Domancy is located at 563 m , southeast of Sallanches , about 52 kilometers southeast of the city of Geneva (as the crow flies). The village with a view of Mont Blanc extends in the valley basin of Sallanches on the southwestern edge of the Arve valley , at the entrance to the Megève pass, in southeastern Faucigny .
The area of the 7.40 km² large municipal area includes a section of the upper Arve valley. The northern border runs in the middle of the 2 km wide valley floor. The community area extends southward from the plain to the adjacent, relatively gently sloping slopes. At 900 m , the highest point of Domancy is reached on the north slope of Mont d'Arbois.
In addition to the actual town center, Domancy also includes various hamlet settlements and farms, including:
- Séchy ( 590 m ) on the southern edge of the Arve valley
- Le Coudray ( 720 m ) on a terrace on the southern slope of the Arve valley
- Vervex ( 575 m ) on the southern edge of the Arve valley
- La Pallud ( 575 m ) on the southern edge of the Arve valley
Neighboring municipalities of Domancy are Passy in the north, Saint-Gervais-les-Bains in the east, Combloux in the south and Sallanches in the west.
history
The municipality of Domancy was settled in prehistoric times. The place was first mentioned in a document in 1339 under the name Domensier . The place name probably goes back to the personal name Domantius .
Attractions
The village church of Saint-André was built in 1717 in the Baroque style and was last extensively restored in 1985. It has wall paintings and a wooden statue from the 17th century. The rectory also dates from the 17th century. Above the village stands the Château de la Perche, which was built in 1860.

With 2113 inhabitants (as of January 1, 2017) Domancy is one of the smaller communities in the Haute-Savoie department. A significant increase in population has been recorded since the early 1970s. Numerous single-family houses were built outside the old town center and on the slopes.
Economy and Infrastructure
Until well into the 20th century, Domancy was a predominantly agricultural village. Today there are various small and medium-sized businesses. Many workers are commuters who work in the larger towns in the area, especially in Sallanches and Cluses.
The place is well developed in terms of traffic. Domancy is on the main road N205, which leads from Annemasse via Cluses to Chamonix . There are further road connections with Combloux and Passy. The closest connection to the A40 motorway is around four km away. Domancy has a train station on the La Roche-sur-Foron – Saint-Gervais railway line that runs through the Arve Valley .
