Ville-en-Sallaz is a French commune in the department of Haute-Savoie in the region of Auvergne Rhône-Alpes .

geography

Ville-en-Sallaz is located at 641  m , about 22 kilometers east-southeast of the city of Geneva (as the crow flies). The village extends in Faucigny , on a sun-exposed southern slope at the foot of the Massif des Brasses, in the Savoy Prealps , slightly elevated above the Lac de Môle.

The area of ​​the 3.37 km² municipal area includes a section of the Faucigny. The southern part of the municipality is taken up by the wide valley between the Massif des Brasses and Le Môle , in which the Lac de Môle is located. This valley is drained to the west to the Foron, a side stream of the Menoge . A very narrow tip extends to the west almost to the Foron. To the north, the parish extends over the slope of Ville to near the summit of the Pointe des Brasses . Here, at 1380  m, the highest point in Ville-en-Sallaz is reached.

Ville-en-Sallaz includes various hamlet settlements, including Chez Maillet ( 610  m ) and Prévières ( 612  m ), both located in the valley on the main road. Neighboring municipalities of Ville-en-Sallaz are La Tour in the east and Peillonnex and Viuz-en-Sallaz in the west.

history

Various traces indicate that the municipality of Ville-en-Sallaz was already settled in Roman times. In the Middle Ages , Ville-en-Sallaz was part of the Faucigny domain. As part of the Dauphiné, the place came to France in 1349, but was given to the Counts of Savoy in an exchange of countries in the Treaty of Paris in 1355 . After that, Ville-en-Sallaz shared the fate of Savoy .

The village church was built in the 19th century. Also worth mentioning are the Prévières chapel and the Château Gaillard.

With 905 inhabitants (as of January 1, 2017) Ville-en-Sallaz is one of the small communities in the Haute-Savoie department. A significant increase in population has been recorded, especially since the beginning of the 1980s. Numerous single-family houses were built outside the old village center.

Economy and Infrastructure

Ville-en-Sallaz was a predominantly agricultural village until well into the 20th century . Today there are various local small businesses. Many of the employed people are commuters who go to work in the larger towns in the area.

The village is very well developed in terms of traffic. It is located a little above the D907 road that leads from Annemasse to Taninges .
