The Savoy Pre-Alps are a mountain group of the Western Alps . They extend from the Swiss Valais via the two departments Savoie and Haute-Savoie to the Département Isère . They border the Graian Alps in the east, the Dauphiné Alps in the south and the Dauphiné Pre-Alps ( Vercors ) in the south-west .
According to the international agreement ( SOIUSA ), the Savoy Pre-Alps are divided into six mountain ranges:
- Aiguilles Rouges necklace (Aiguilles Rouges)
- Giffre (Buet-Ruan- Dents du Midi ; Fis-Platé-Colonney; Dents Blanches-Avoudrues-Nant Golon)
- Chablais (Haufforts-Grange; Bise - Oche ; Roc d'Enfer-Brasses)
- Bornes (Aravis; Bargy-Lachat-Tournette)
- Bauges (Arcalod-Trélod-Semnoz; Grand Colombier-Margerie-Revard)
- Chartreuse ( Mont Granier - Dent de Crolles -Grand Som; Chamechaude-Charmant Som).
The Aiguilles-Rouges chain is missing in other sources.
The Savoy Prealps form part of the limestone zone that continues as the French Limestone Alps to the southwest into the Dauphiné Prealps and Provencal Prealps , and to the northeast into the Swiss Prealps and further into the northern limestone Alps of the Eastern Alps . This zone is sharply separated from the crystalline central massifs ( Mercantour , Pelvoux , Belledonne , Grandes Rousses , Mont Blanc , Aar and Gotthard massifs ) by valleys (e.g. the Isère ) .
