The Dauphiné Alps are a mountain group of the western Alps in the French region of Dauphiné .
Upstream to the west are the Vercors and Chartreuse foothills . In the north, the Dauphiné Alps are bordered by the Savoy Alps , in the east by the Graian Alps and in the southeast by the Cottian Alps . The collective name Pelvoux is also used for the central glaciated high alpine mountain range around the mountain ranges of Barre des Écrins, Meije , Ailefroide and Mont Pelvoux .
Its highest peak is the Barre des Écrins , which is also the southernmost four-thousand-meter peak in the Alps .
