Ayse , even Ayze written, is a French commune in the department of Haute-Savoie in the region of Auvergne Rhône-Alpes .
geography
Ayse is located at 482 m , east of Bonneville , about 26 km east-southeast of the city of Geneva (as the crow flies). The village extends slightly higher on the northern slope of the Arve , in the Savoy Alps at the southern foot of the Môle , in Faucigny .
The area of the 10.48 km² municipal area includes a section of the central Arvetal. The southern border runs along the Arve, which flows here in a wide valley from east to west. From the course of the river, the community area extends northward over the flat floodplain and the Ayse slope. This slope, which is relatively gently sloping in the lower area, climbs steeply north of Ayse to the rocky crest of the Rocher de l'Aigle ( 1168 m ) and to the summit of the Môle, on which the highest elevation of Ayse is reached at 1863 m .
In addition to the actual village, Ayse includes various hamlet settlements, including:
- La Ruaz ( 510 m ) to the east adjoining the village
- Les Merzières ( 470 m ) on the edge of the Arve valley lowlands
- Vallet ( 680 m ) on the southern slope of the Môle
- Broisin ( 690 m ) on the southern slope of the Môle
Ayse's neighboring communities are Saint-Jean-de-Tholome and Saint-Jeoire in the north, Marignier in the east, Vougy in the south and Bonneville in the west.
history
The municipality of Ayse was already settled in the Neolithic .
Attractions
The village church of Ayse was built in the 17th century. Also worth mentioning are the Chapelle de l'Étraz and a mansion from the 15th century.
population
With 2145 inhabitants (as of January 1, 2017) Ayse is one of the smaller communities in the Haute-Savoie department. Since the late 1960s, thanks to the attractive residential area, there has been a marked increase in population. Numerous single-family houses were built outside the old town center.

Economy and Infrastructure
Ayse was a predominantly agricultural village until well into the 20th century . Ayse is located in the Savoie wine-growing region . White wines made from the Altesse grape variety (locally called Roussette ) may be marketed under the protected designation of origin Roussette de Savoie . The AOC Vin de Savoie applies to white wines of other grape varieties and red wines .
Today there are various small and medium-sized businesses. Many workers are commuters who work in the larger towns in the area.
The place is well developed in terms of traffic. It is on a departmental road that leads from Bonneville to Marignier. The closest connection to the A40 motorway is around six km away. The Bonneville train station on the railway line from Annemasse via La Roche-sur-Foron to Cluses is also easily accessible from Ayse.
