Etaux even Eteaux written, is a French commune in the department of Haute-Savoie in the region of Auvergne Rhône-Alpes .
geography
Etaux is located at around 640 m , west of La Roche-sur-Foron , around 20 kilometers southeast of the city of Geneva (as the crow flies). The scattered settlement community extends on the eastern slope of the high plateau of Bornes, above the broad Arvetal , at the northern foot of the Bornes Alps .
The area of the 13.69 km² municipal area includes a section in the area of the Bornes plateau. In the east, the border runs parallel to the slope above La Roche-sur-Foron. From here the community area extends westward over the slope of Etaux to the wide high plateau of Bornes, on which the highest elevation of Etaux is reached at 940 m at Combloux. The southern boundary is usually the Foron valley . In the far west, the communal soil extends over the saddle of Évires to the headwaters of the Daudens, which drains to the south-west to the Fier .
In addition to the actual core around the church, Etaux also includes several hamlet settlements and farmsteads, including:
- Charny ( 630 m ) on the slope north of the village
- Les Faverges ( 730 m ) on the ascent to Col d'Évires
- Même ( 760 m ) on the ascent to Col d'Évires
- Les Crues ( 820 m ) on the Bornes plateau
Neighboring municipalities of Etaux are Pers-Jussy and Cornier in the north, La Roche-sur-Foron in the east and south and Évires and La Chapelle-Rambaud in the west.

Attractions
The village church of Etaux has a Gothic choir, while the nave dates from the 16th century. There is a manor house in Charny.

With 1979 inhabitants (as of January 1, 2017) Etaux is one of the smaller communities in the Haute-Savoie department. Since the beginning of the 1970s, thanks to the attractive residential area, there has been significant population growth.
Economy and Infrastructure
Until well into the 20th century, Etaux was a predominantly agricultural village. Today there are various small and medium-sized businesses. Many employed people are commuters who work in the larger towns in the area, but especially in the Geneva-Annemasse area and in Annecy .
The village is very well developed in terms of traffic. It is close to the N203 main road from La Roche-sur-Foron to Annecy. The closest connection to the A41 motorway is around 2 km away. The train station of La Roche-sur-Foron on the Annemasse- Cluses or Annemasse-Annecy railway line is also easily accessible from Etaux.
