The Dranse is a mountain river in France that runs in the Haute-Savoie department in the Auvergne-Rhône-Alpes region . It is created by the union of its two source rivers Dranse d'Abondance and Dranse de Morzine , in the municipality of La Forclaz . Together with the Dranse d'Abondance, it is hydrographically classified as a watercourse totaling 49.1 km. The Dranse generally drains north-west and flows into Lake Geneva after a distance of around ten kilometers in the municipal area of Évian-les-Bains . At its mouth, the Dranse forms a small river delta that is under nature protection. The delta has an area of 53 hectares. The small French wine-growing region Crépy is located near the delta .
The towns of Évian-les-Bains , Thonon-les-Bains and Armoy are located along the river .
