The Bauhaus Luftfahrt eV is in November 2005 by the three aerospace companies EADS (now Airbus Group ), Liebherr-Aerospace Lindenberg , and MTU Aero Engines and the Bavarian Ministry of Economic Affairs, Infrastructure, Transport and Technology , was established non-profit organization. Industrieanlagen-Betriebsgesellschaft ( IABG ) has also been a member of the institution since 2012 .

The approximately 50 employees deal with the future of mobility in general and with the future of air transport in particular. The aim of the research is to look at the aviation system as a whole from many perspectives: technical, economic, social and ecological aspects are taken into account.
