The Southern Cross University , SCU for short , is a university in Lismore in the Australian state of New South Wales .

The SCU was founded in 1994. Around 18,000 students are enrolled at the university, around 4,000 of them in postgraduate courses. In addition to the main location in Lismore, there are the locations Coffs Harbor , Port Macquarie and Tweed Heads . Another location is planned on the Gold Coast in Queensland .

The university is involved in distance learning, among other things, with around 1,300 students enrolled in 50 countries.
