The Australian Catholic University (ACU National) is the only state Catholic university in Australia .

history

The ACU was founded on January 1, 1991 and was created from the merger of four higher Catholic educational institutions in Queensland , New South Wales , Victoria and the Australian Capital Territory . The first chancellor was the Archbishop of Sydney , Edward Bede Cardinal Clancy .

University

Over 34,000 students attend the university, which is spread over six locations in three states and one federal territory in Brisbane , Sydney (North Sydney and Strathfield), Canberra , Ballarat and Melbourne , and in Rome .

The ACU, although a Catholic university, is open to students of all religious beliefs.
