The University of Western Australia (UWA) is a university in Perth on the west coast of Australia that was founded in 1911 . It is the oldest university in Western Australia and belongs to the Group of Eight , a research group of Australian universities.
The original campus was on Hay Street in the city center. He was in a passage on Irwin Street known as Tin Pot Alley because the roof was made of tin .
The main campus has been located in Crawley since the 1930s. The original building on Irwin Street used to be the Senate boardroom. Some of the sports facilities are located in the Mt. Claremont district.
The Crawley Campus is one of Perth's premier tourist attractions. Many of the buildings were built from limestone , including the Winthrop Hall, the UWA landmark, built according to Romanesque style principles . In the northern area of the campus, the buildings are surrounded by parks in which a large number of different species of trees, plants and birds can be found. Along the campus, the Swan River forms Matilda Bay .

A highlight for several years now has been Prosh , a day in the first few weeks of the university year when students dress up and parade through the city center. They sell self-written newspapers for a charitable cause.
Political and private legacies make it one of the city's largest landowners. Notable graduates include Bob Hawke , Carmen Lawrence , Kim Beazley , Malla Nunn, and Alan Fels .
