Matariki University Network

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

The Matariki University Network is an international group of universities founded in 2010 that focuses on close links between research and teaching in undergraduate and graduate studies. It claims that each member is a leader in research and teaching because of long academic traditions. The network was set up so that university studies become more diverse, to exchange ideas and to learn from one another through the international role model function, in recognition of the common advocacy of an ethos of excellence in research, teaching and science.

"Matariki" is the Maori name for the star group of the Pleiades , also known as the Seven Sisters . He stands for the seven founding members of the network.

Possible activities within the network are:

  • Improved student exchange
  • Joint Post Graduate Programs
  • Social responsibility projects
  • Research collaboration
  • Conferences and workshops on topics of common interest
  • Exchange scholarships
  • Exchange and internships of lecturers and employees
  • Benchmarking and sharing best practices
  • Cultural and sporting activities
