The University of Wollongong , UOW for short , is a university in Wollongong in the Australian state of New South Wales .
The University of Wollongong was founded in 1951 from the New South Wales University of Technology (now the University of New South Wales ), initially as Wollongong University College. The university has existed under its current name since 1975.
Around 35,000 students are enrolled at the university. In addition to the main location in Wollongong and the campus in Shoalhaven City , the university has locations in Bega , Batemans Bay , Nowra , Moss Vale and Sydney (Sydney Business School). A branch has existed since 1993, the University of Wollongong in Dubai (UOWD), in the United Arab Emirates .
In 1999/2000 the university was awarded the prize “Outstanding Research and Development Partnerships” and in 2000/2001 the prize “Preparing Graduates for the e-world”.
Rankings and Reputation
The University of Wollongong ranks 201–250 in the Times Higher Education Rankings worldwide and 212 in the QS World University Rankings . Individual faculties such as Mining Engineering and Materials Science are in the top 100 places.
